Hosting a League 101

Hosting a league means creating a private season-long NFL game on LeagueMind and sharing its invite link. Hosting is part of Pro. Joining a league is always free, so the people you invite never need a paid account.

Formats

Every league is a private, season-long NFL game. Pick the format when you create it:

Survivor
Pick one winner every week. Miss, and that entry is done for the season.
Pick'em, straight up
Pick a winner in every game, every week. No spread.
Pick'em, against the spread
Pick against the spread on every game. The line is fixed at the moment you submit.
Best Ball
Draft it, forget it. Your best lineup scores itself every week, half-PPR. Offered when it is switched on.

A Best Ball league adds a draft. You choose a live draft, where everyone drafts in one sitting, or a slow draft, one pick at a time. You also set the number of teams (8 to 14) and the pick clock.

Watch out: a slow Best Ball draft may still be running when NFL Week 1 starts. The league starts scoring the week its draft finishes.
Example

Your group wants something simple for the season, so you host a Survivor league. In week 1 everyone picks one team to win. The pick sheet keeps track of the teams each entry has already used.

The short version: Survivor, Pick'em straight up, Pick'em against the spread, and Best Ball once it is switched on.

Create a league

  • Start at Create a league. Use the button on Play or go straight to the create page. You need to be signed in.
  • Name it and pick a format. Best Ball also asks for the draft type, the team count and the pick clock.
  • Create it. You become the owner and your own first entry is added.
  • Copy the invite link, then go to your league. The link is shown when you create the league.

Hosting is part of Pro. A free account sees the same form with a note that hosting is Pro and joining is always free, and the Create button stays off.

Watch out: the invite link is handed back when the league is created, so copy it before you leave the page.
Example

You type Sunday Survivor Squad as the name (a league name is 3 to 80 characters), choose Survivor and press Create a league. The page confirms the league is ready and shows an invite link with a Copy link button.

The short version: name the league, pick a format, and create it. You get an invite link right away.

Invite players

Joining a league is always free. Pro covers the host, not the room. Everyone you invite plays the whole season, with picks, standings and the graveyard, on a free account, and there are no entry fees.

  • Share the link. It opens a page with the league and a single Join league button, and signed-out visitors are asked to sign up or log in first.
  • Or share the code. Players can type it into Join with invite code.
  • Mind the size. A league holds up to 100 entries. A Best Ball league holds as many as it has teams.
Watch out: an invite that isn't valid shows an Invite not found card rather than an error. Ask for a fresh link if that happens.
Example

You paste the link into the group chat. A friend with no account opens it, sees the league name and 1/100 entries, signs up for free and presses Join league. They play the whole season without paying anything.

The short version: send the link or code; anyone can join on a free account, with no entry fee.

Run the season

The league page is where the season happens. It shows your entries with the time picks close, the standings, and a link to the official rules for the league. A Survivor league adds the pool, with entries still alive and a graveyard of those eliminated. Pick'em scores points and ranks entries.

Best Ball starts with the draft room, and after it your best lineup is set for you each week.

Watch out: picks close at the first game still to be played that week, so remind players ahead of that time. The picks deadline is shown on each entry.
Example

In week 5 your league page shows your entry with its picks deadline, the standings for every entry, and a link to the official rules. In a Survivor league it also shows how many entries are still alive and lists the ones that are out.

The short version: the league page holds your entries, the picks deadline, the standings and the official rules.
