How to run an ESPN offline draft — in person, on a TV

An offline draft is ESPN's name for a draft that happens outside its draft room: your league picks in person — living room, bar, lake house — and the commissioner enters the results into ESPN afterward. ESPN handles the season; draft night itself is entirely yours to run. That's the fun of it, and also the catch: ESPN gives you nothing for the room. No board, no clock, no player list.

This guide covers all three parts of the job:

Step 1 — Set the draft type to Offline in ESPN

In your ESPN league, open LM Tools → League and Scoring Settings → Draft Settings and set the draft type to Offline Draft. Do this before your scheduled draft date. Once saved, ESPN won't open a live draft room for your league — it will instead wait for the commissioner to enter results. Set your draft order in the same place if your league uses a fixed order.

Step 2 — Run draft night: put a real board on the TV

The classic answer is a paper sticker board. It works, but someone spends the whole night peeling labels, nobody can read round 9 from the couch, and there's no clock — which is how a 12-team, 15-round draft turns into a four-hour night.

1. Open your league and go to LM Tools → Input Offline Draft Results.
2. Click a roster slot, start typing the player's name, and click the player.
3. Enter players in the order they were drafted — that's what makes ESPN's draft-results page match your actual draft.
4. When every pick is in, click Make Rosters Available. Until you do, the league can't see rosters or make moves.
